The food was fantastic! Simple hole in the wall. Not for big parties. The Sunday Stew with rice is wonderful! I had a papaya smoothie that was spot on. We had for appetizers the plaintains and the spicy plaintain cups (forgot the name) delish. I saw an assortment of vegan dishes!! Lots of things on the menu, very decently priced. We'll be back, they're very amable, and hospitable.

Oh my! I don't know what is in the lemonade, but I want more. Inviting place with great Caribbean music on the radio. Lots of menu choices. Air conditioning, which was necessary on an August day in Shreveport. Nice people taking my order and running the establishment. Had the garlic chicken with rice and beans. Flavorful and tender. Worth a stop!

Yelps found me another Awesome place! came here for lunch today while working at Barksdale AFB. A coworker and I both had a fantastic lunch. It was so good i'm going back there for lunch again tomorrow. The staff was very friendly and the food was excellent. You have got to try this place! As good as it gets!

Positively one of my favorite places to eat. The Cuban is phenomenal. Mofongo is great. Reminds me of the islands every time I eat here. ¡Gracias mi amigos!

I've only had the Cuban sandwich with fries the past 10 times I've been here here with multiple friends and co-workers that have ordered things other than the Cuban sandwich and have all enjoyed their meals. This place is an excellent place for lunch around $10.

My husband and I went for lunch and it was so good! I had the garlic chicken and he had the braised chicken. The rice and beans was excellent too! Service was pleasant and our food came out really fast. The price was pretty good too for the amount of food you get. We will definitely be going back!

Fresh, home cooked food! We eat here several times a month and are never disappointed. The restaurant is clean, the service is friendly (family owned) and the food is just delish!

I had a delicious Cuban sandwich and my husband had the melt -in -your- mouth, flavorful pork shoulder. Couldn't ask for a better stop on our road trip. This is Yelp at its best

So delicious! I had the racist pork shoulder and okra and my boyfriend had the ribs and Moro. The meats were so juicy and tender, and the ribs quite literally fell off the bone! The two side dishes were the delicious, but I liked the moro rice better than the okra--more flavor. Would recommend this restaurant.

Most excellent. My family was on a road trip and wanted an easy, yet fun option. Very wide menu from adventurous Plantian and seafood to safe burgers and salads. Plenty of options to make the whole family happy. Service was excellent, family owned and friendly. I ordered the plantain plate, with chicken, which was amazing.

In the home stretch to Texas, we decided one last time to get something to eat. Sabores happened to be the place we stopped at. The building itself may turn you away, but it's nice inside and clean. Pretty simple. When we ate here it was probably about 6 pm. They have a variety of items on the menu from American to Dominican and Cuban. When we came they had ran out of several things. My hungry-whiney-ready to be back in Texas crew wasn't very happy that they ran out of certain things. They ran out of pork shoulder so we couldn't get the pernil or cuban sandwich. We could only get the fried or grilled pork chops. We couldn't get braised or garlic chicken, only the grilled chicken. The beef entrees you could only get the steak with onions which I believe was called Bistec encebellado or something along those lines. My husband got crispy pork, which I thought was pretty good. Grandma got the lentil stew. Which came out in a pretty big bowl. I only had a bite, but it was tasty. I got the steak with onions and it was delicious. We got the Mofonguitos, but I was the only one that liked them. The owner was nice and we talked to her for awhile. I'm not going to deduct stars because it wasn't our fault that they ran out of things. We just came too late. *I* enjoyed my meal and *I* would be back if I'm ever in the area.

An emotional experience for me, which means it was fantastic. Every bite made me reflect in how blessed I am to be human, have taste buds, and find great places to eat due to Yelp.

Just one foot in the door , and you could tell it was going to be a good dinning experience. The aroma in the restaurant was intoxicating . We had the goat special , and I'm sure glad I did. It was literally finger licking good . It took a little time for our food to arrive , but it was well worth the wait . The staff were super friendly .

We ordered the braised chicken and jerk chicken with a side of fried yellow plantains. The jerk chicken was very delicious! I will order that again. The braised chicken was very plain and was served with plain white rice with red beans on the side. I will not be ordering the braised chicken again and I don't recommend it if you're looking for flavor. We received a generous amount of fried plantains so I'm happy with that!

I asked for a recommendation. Without hesitating, the recommendation was today's special. Braised pork chop with rice and peas. Pork was fall apart tender without being dry. Nice seasoning - complimented the meat, not overly seasoned. Nice clean place. I would certainly stop here again!

Delicious authentic food made by real people who put in the time and effort to actually cook and serve what they love. Señor Juan and the staff are awesome and friendly. I will definitely be a repeat customer.

The garlic chicken with rice is incredible. Also, make sure to get the Monfonguitos as an appetizer. The dip is amazing

This was a solid place and I'm glad that I went. I'd like to try it again, but we were driving thru on our way to Texas. I'd like to give it two or three more tries. After that I would know if I were a lifelong fan or if it was just worth a try and move on. The reason for this uncertainty was that the service was awesome and the food tasty, but just hard to work thru. Let me explain. The restaurant is a family establishment and I give them tremendous support wherever I go. These folks were absolutely amazing. Nice, genuine, worthy of continued support. They were friendly, warm and endearing. The entire multi-generational family was there. Had the mofonguitos as an appetizer. This was something I would get EVERY time I came. I wish I were a local just to enjoy these again. They look like little potato cakes cooked in cupcake pans. Maybe 4 or 6 of them. Plenty of food right there. They came with two sauces. One was much lighter, garlicy. The other was cilantro based. I usually don't like cilantro, but this rocked. I wish I had written down the ingredients more, but they were both wonderful complements. I then had the fried chicken chunks. They were extremely savory and cooked well. Outside crunchy, savory. Inside succulent and juicy. But they were like chicken wings that had been chopped in half. The outer skin was tough and it was hard to know if you were crunching bones or outer cover. The meat didn't leave the bone easily making it almost a dental wrestling match. The food was great though. Made me think I was eating the poultry version of hard shelled crabs. Lot of work involved for the reward. It came with rice which was 'da bomb. I had it with peas and was very pleased. My wife had the Dominican Stew. It was as if the whole chicken was cooked in there. Very tasty, but hard to figure out how to eat. Pour it on the rice? Eat it from the bowl? When eating from the bowl, had to pick out the bones, cartilidge and other parts of the chicken. I have cooked chicken based stew this way before, but have always removed those parts before serving. Maybe it isn't the way in Dominican Republic. Like eating a great fish, but you have to watch out for all the fish bones. Good place. Great people. Good food. Glad I got what I did, wish I could go back and try some other items.

Adding another five-star review here seems like beating a dead horse, but I must. This was my first experience with Cuban food (aside from a homemade Cuban Ropa Vieja). I am in love!! My favorite is the Pernil with yellow rice. Each time I've been completely satisfied and blown away. The sauce is flavorful and the pork is melt-in-your-mouth tender. The lemonade!!! Is delicious!! You must try this. The braised chicken is pretty darned good. The owner is a sweet guy. He walks around holding his granddaughter and I just love the feel of the place. This may be my favorite restaurant in Bossier City.

Hands down the best food I have tasted In a long time. Specially the tostones (green plantain) ask for mayo ketchup which is basically mayo and ketchup mixed so good. Love it.

Don't let the location fool you. Decor is simple but the place is really clean and service is amazing. It's like you are an invited guest in their home. Menu is simple and the printed menu in the restaurant is out of date. We were there on a Tuesday and tried the following: Mofonguitos. An order consists of four and one per person would be plenty for an appetizer. They are served with garlic sauce and cilantro sauce. Wonderful! Braised Chicken: Huge portions of chicken baked in a savory, tomato flavored sauce served with white rice and beans. Delicious! Roast Pork Shoulder served with rice with peas. Tender pulled pork with a great flavor, though, being from Texas, I kept thinking I needed some sort of sauce though the meat was tender and moist. Really good! A special vegetarian dish of Okra with a light tomato broth was Amazing! No dessert for us. Tried the special limeade drinks. Really sweet! Mango flavor was good; tamarind was unusual but not bad. Can't wait to return on a Thursday to give the ox tail a try.

*500th review!* So who knew my 500th review would be from my hometown in Shreveport, on a backroad where you would think no restaurant would, or should, be. This place is nothing much to look at, but the food was phenomenal! My husband and I both had a beef meat pie - the pastry was delish as was the cilantro dipping sauce that came with it. The mofonguito was soooo good, a MUST order! We were in a bit of a hurry, so took our main entree picks to go....the Dominican Stew....like a chicken and veggie gumbo....great for a rainy or cold day. Everything seems to be cooked to order so if you're in a hurry, go for a cuban sandwich or something faster because the food comes out a little slow....but it's definitely worth the wait if you have time. This is probably the first and only Dominican Restaurant this area has EVER had and I hope it gets patronized enough to stick around! If not.....Sabores....Dallas would EAT YOU UP!!!

  • Samantha D.

So. Good. I had the garlic chicken, and I was not disappointed. Even better was my husband's expertly seasoned grilled pork chops. They were so amazing that I traded half my entree for his. The black beans, tostones, mofonguitos + cilantro sauce, and rice + pigeon peas were all delicious too! Furthermore, the flan was not too "eggy," and I also very much enjoyed the tres leches cake. (Yes, I nearly had to be rolled out of the building because I ate so much!) The simple decor leaves a little to be desired, but--trust me--nobody's eating here for the atmosphere anyway. The fresh delicious food and super friendly service make up for *anything* in which this restaurant may be lacking. After a stint in Miami, I can confirm this is the real deal, and I am so happy to have found this place. Sabores is my new favorite restaurant in the Shreveport-Bossier area!

Outstanding little gem for your Caribbean fix. Walked in at lunch to an empty room, but then it was rights at 11, so they had just opened. Very nice waitress, and the place felt very homey. I decided to try the Mofonguitos appetizer, which was amazing. Comes with two dipping sauces....a garlic based and a cilantro based. Both were outstanding. Wanted to try the paella, but they only offer a two person version, and it was too much for me to handle. Instead, I went with the chuletas, grilled pork chops. They were perfectly seasoned and were hugely portioned (two big chops). The rice and peas with them were also very good. I highly recommend this place for someone who is in the area and has burned themselves out on all of the Cajun offerings and just wants a very good meal and great service.

This place is a hidden gem! I had beef stew and the ox tail. It was Authentic Caribbean food with quality meat. Polite staff and very reasonable prices. Only reason it didn't get 5 stars is because it can use a little upgrade in decor. Definitely recommend.

This is what an authentic dining experience should be like. Seriously, these folks are taking the time, putting in the effort, and sparing no expense to put out the best food they possibly can. No cut-corners. A pride and dignity given to the food that's evident on the plate. I'm seriously impressed. (It's not "Shreveport/Bossier good" - it'd be good in NYC too!) Also evident - this place is kept cleaner than most any other resturant that I've been into in the state. They really are DOING IT RIGHT. Food was flawless and delicious. Served hot and fresh. I had a Dominican style Chimichuri Burger. My wife, a SPECTACULAR Cuban Sandwich. We shared rice and pigeon peas, mofongitos, and maduro (ripe/sweet) plantain. The whole meal was righteously good. Service with a friendly smile, and the genuine feeling that you've been adopted into their family. Stop in and see - this place is earning a rightfully stellar reputation for great food. One of my new favorite craves. I'll be back FREQUENTLY!

I can not say enough good things about this place! The food is always fresh and delicious. I get the fried chicken chunks with the rice and peas for my side. I've also had the shredded pork with onion which is awesome too. And their green delicious magical sauce.. There are no words! I put it on everything! But it's especially good with the fried plantains. I've tried the flan and the tres leches cake which are both incredible as well. This is a family owned restaurant; They're all extremely kind and welcoming people. They have even kept the restaurant open late for me and some friends of mine once before. This restaurant is a must-go!

Random find just driving by on I20. Being from New York City I can guarantee the authenticity of the food. Food brought me back to Washington Heights and the many Dominican food that was there. A must stop visit for anybody look for some great/ inexpensive food. Place is small but really friendly, I was greeted by mostly everyone that works here, which is probably all family.

This place is a gem! There are 2 things I thought I'd never experience when I found out I'd be living in Shreveport, Louisiana: 1) that I'd play more hockey here than anywhere else in my life, and 2) that I'd find world-class Dominican cuisine. Well, both turned out to be true! After I ate at Sabores for the first time I soon found myself eating here 2-3 times a week. It's in a great location for those working on Barksdale AFB, as it is about a mile from the north gate. You can eat here 100 times and be pleasantly surprised each and every time by trying something new. The owners from New York where they own another restaurant called Estrella. They are very friendly and make you feel at home from the moment you walk in. Sabores is very cognizant of the ingredients they use and always strive to find the best local meats, fish, and vegetables. I've tried nearly everything on the menu so far and everything has been fantastic, but a few of my favorites are the pernil, espaguetis, and pechuga al ajillo. The cubano sandwich is also an overwhelming favorite of friends who I have eaten here with, and no one does crinkle-cut fries better than Sabores! Don't forget about the guava cheesecake for dessert. I can't say enough great things about this place, so just eat here!

Mom and pop place. The hubby and I ventured out for an authentic ethnic dinner and we definitely found it! We shared the mofonguitos for our appetizer. It was ok, the actual mofonguitos lacked some flavor, but the sauce they had on the side was quite tasty. I had the garlic chicken, and boy did they not skimp on the garlic! I could smell the garlic sauteeing in the kitchen while we sat and waited for our food. I just got rice and beans on the side. They hubby got the braised pork chops in egglant sauce. OMB, that was the highlight of the night. The pork was soooooo tender, it just melted in your mouth! If you get a chance, get out and support this place :)

The food here is So YUMMY!! We had the monfoguitos(app) I had the garlic chicken with rice and pigeon peas and my husband had the roast pork. Talk about leaving with a Happy belly!! I recommend this place to anyone who love authentic ethnic food! You can tell that there is love in that kitchen!

Definitely a hidden gem. This place is easy to miss and NOT on the main roads. Extremely accommodating for families. Exceptionally friendly service. Most of all, the food was flavorful and unique. The Cuban sandwich is most comparable to a panini but without the toasted outside.

I've eaten at Sabores a number of times, but it has always been take out so this review will be based on the eats and not the dining experience. The food here is wonderful. I've never had Dominican food before, but I've had Peruvian food, which is a similar cuisine. I've had the Cuban, Monfongitos, Garlic Chicken, and Pulled Pork. The Cuban was the best Cuban I've had. The meat was very succulent and the amount of mustard was not overbearing and was just right. I've never had Monfongitos, but if you enjoy hash browns, you'll really enjoy it, as it's essentially friend potatoes with latin spices. The Garlic Chicken was probably my least favorite. It was basically chicken breast with some garlic sauce poured on top. I found the garlic sauce to be not mixed together well and kind of diluted. The Pulled Pork was really good - very flavorful and paired well with the yellow rice. What I enjoyed above all, however, was their cilantro sauce. SO GOOD. I would recommend lathering it over everything. I would recommend this to anyone in Shreveport and at the very worst, this is a good alternative to cajun food.

It was a rare date night and we spent it with friends who live in Bossier City. They picked the place and we were oh so glad to have discovered Sabores. The place is stuffed behind a bowling alley off Industrial Boulevard, so no need to wear your little black dress. It's nice and casual. And clean -- from floor to ceiling. Atmosphere/Service Sabores is what it is: a place to eat. It's well-lit with small tables and vinyl-covered chairs. Again, it's clean. -- Our service was impeccable. From being seated (by the owner, I presume), to the friendly and efficient service of our waitress. If it's not a family-run operation, it certainly felt like it. And they made us feel like part of the family. Food This is the real reason for the review, and for driving an hour to eat. In short, it was well worth it. We shared appetizers of Tostones (fried plantain w/ cheese) and Mofonguitos (plantain cups), served with a house-made cilantro dipping sauce. Divine. My wife and I shared an order of Paella. It arrived hot with a side of tostones and an avocado salad (which was missing the avocado). While the dish might be more appropriately called Jollof (the West African version of Paella - seasoned differently), or Seafood Jambalaya, it was delicious nonetheless. Packed with mussels and shrimp. Our friends had roast pork shoulder (pernil) and skirt steak (churrasco). Both said their dishes were really good. Unfortunately, they were out of tres leches cake. Such can happen in mom & pop operations, and that's fine. When we return to Sabores, I've already decided that I'm going for Mofongo w/ Shrimp. Or maybe oxtail. I'm sure that, no matter what I get, it'll be cooked with love and served hot. I can't wait!

After reading the reviews, and seeing the write-up in The Times, we decided it was worth a try. The garlic chicken was tough, but the eggplant and rice, and the beans and rice that my husband had were excellent. My son ordered the cuban sandwich and was pleased with it as well. The tostones were different than what we were used to in Florida where authentic Cuban food can be found. These tostones were kinda dry with bits of pork and melted cheese. Not my favorite. We like the fact that it is family-run. It's small, but very friendly. The music was fun. I would go back simply for the veggies and beans and rice. Pretty addicting...

My wife and I stopped here on our way back to New Orleans from Dallas. This is one of the best Carribean/Latin restaurants we have ever been to! The freshness, quality, and service was outstanding. I had the pork chops with black beans n rice. They were juicy, tender, seasoned to perfection, Melt-in-your mouth, with a perfect seared crust. The plantains were hot and crispy served with a garlicky, tangy sauce. My wife had the chicken and rice. This was also very impressive, full of flavor, and authentic seasoning. Highly recommend the fresh tamarind juice- perfect balance of sweet, and tart- will make you smile :) One can truly taste the love in this food, and makes me want to drive 6 hours just to eat there again!

Terrible service. Walked out before even sitting down. The waitress would not let us sit at the window table. Instead put us at the tiny table with heavy traffic near the kitchen, in case more people came, despite 5 open tables. That's what greed is. Life is too short for bad service.

  • Evette S.

The lemonade was great. The male owner was stellar and that is why this place gets 3 stars. The female owner/waitress was very pushy. I was able to sample the roasted pork (salty), and garlic chicken (on the bland side) because I was undecided on what to order. I had the grilled tilapia with coconut sauce with black bean and rice. It was the better choice but still not taste bud popping. I also like sweet plantains caramelized. I didn't realize that sweet plantains Dominican style is fried which is my least favorite way to eat them. My fault though and not the restaurant.

While passing through Shreveport on a trip to Houston, we found authentic South American cuisine and a friendly atmosphere. My wife was impressed with plantains that reminded her of her mother's Ecuadorian way of cooking. Stop in and enjoy a family style neighborhood restaurant - you won't be sorry. The owner is true Dominican via the Bronx. We will stop in on any trip through Shreveport.

Absolutely delicious! Serving authentic Domenican and Caribbean food. The mofonguito was nothing short of amazing, as was the Cuban sandwich I had. Can't wait to go back and try something different...though I think I'll still have to order the mofonguito again. Great service too.

Great food - good service, nice atmosphere. Small/cozy dining room. Had a whole fried red snapper, paella, cuban sandwhich, tostones, and several other dishes. Everything was good. large portions, plenty to take home with us. I will definitely go back ... there was something for everyone!

Sabores translates to "flavors", and there is ample evidence of that at this tasty, friendly, family-run place. The dishes we ordered had our taste buds dancing, and the music had our feet wanting to dance.

My friend, Luis, who is from the DR has been raving about this place for months. We finally went for lunch today and I can understand the hype. They only had one plate of Mofunga left so we left that for our friend, and we both got the pork shoulder. The price was a little high for lunch, $10.95. But the portions and taste were worth it. The service was a little slow at first, they only had one waitress. As it cleared out she was very attentive. I will definitely be bringing the family and my DR friends back to this place.
